Clinical Experiences of Sural Nerve and Its Nutrient Vessels Island Flap for Repairing Heel Skin Def

Objective: To explore sural nerve and its nutrient vessels island flap for repairing heel skin defect.

 

Methods: There were 56 cases with heel skin defect, and all were given sural nerve and its nutrient vessels island flap for repairing wound.

 

Results: Forty seven cases were cured at stage I. Seven cases were with small area necrosis at flap margin and graft margin, but these lesions were cured after dressing change for 1 to 2 weeks; Wounds in two cases were still with purulent secretion, and formed sinus. The wound was cured after antibiotic therapy and VSD treatment for 2 to 3 weeks.

 

Conclusion: For feeling recovery, heel thickness and wear-resisting and pressure-resisting, sural nerve and its nutrient vessels island flap meets the needs for heel requirements, weight bearing walking and shock absorption, and is the best choice for recovery large area heel skin defect.
